In past years the Wildlife Hospital didn’t see baby birds in winter because the conditions were too cold for breeding but, as each year becomes warmer we are seeing more and more birds breeding all year round. This is evidence that global warming is real and making changes in our environment.
If you find a baby bird sit back and watch; it is likely that the parents are nearby and will continue to feed and protect the baby. Sometimes it looks like they are all alone but the parents are just giving baby a chance to learn. If this is the case there is no need to ‘rescue’ the bird because you may in fact be ‘kidnapping’. Of course if the baby bird is truly abandoned or injured please bring the bird to Currumbin Wildlife Hospital or your nearest vet.
